On October 29th, 2025, MSU Rugby lost our Rugby Brother, Dr. James "BIG PETE" Petersen. He was not only the most important and dynamic figure the club has ever had, but was the heart of MSU Rugby for over 47 years. He was loved by all and will be missed.

The next time you go to a MSU Rugby match you will see a new banner, WELCOME TO PETERSEN PITCH - HOME OF MSU RUGBY. This is the official /unofficial new name for the rugby pitch. This has been a long time coming. The new banner is to honor Dr. James "Big Pete" Petersen for a lifetime of dedication as a player, coach, advisor, and driving force for Rugby at MSU.
